Dorothy Ellen Boggus McFarland, 86, Liberty, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at Hospice of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Kentucky, with her family by her side.
She was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and was a native of Carlisle, Kentucky; a daughter of the late Esther Dayton and Henry Baker Boggus. She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. McFarland, Sr.; daughter, Mary E. Martin; son, Timothy W. McFarland; grandson, David R. Martin, Jr.; sisters, Mary D. Boggus, Chloe Garrett, Margie Cropper, Barbara Lizer, and Mary Frances Lynch.
Dorothy was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church; always active with missions organizations. She served faithfully by her husband's side at his pastorates of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Pond Missionary Baptist Church, Flat Lick Baptist Church and Drakes Creek Baptist Church. She attended God's Bible College in Cincinnati and was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She retired as a dorm teacher/supervisor at Kentucky School for the Deaf in 1990. She long enjoyed breeding German Shepherds and was a founder and active member of the Peavey Cemetery Board of Directors.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David L. (Sandy) McFarland, Berea; two daughters, Martha G. (Brett) James, Liberty, and Rebekah L. (Steve) Dixon, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Jo Anne Whitteaker, Pinellas Park, FL; Betty (David) Tollefson, Torrance, CA; and Joy (Tom) Bridges, Lexington; brother, David (Sally) McClure, Amelia, OH; 12 grandchildren , eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Bartle's Funeral Home, Liberty, KY, with Reverends Kenneth Crew and Gale Durham officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in Peavey Cemetery, Casey Co. Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be William "Tiny" Stafford, Stan Coffman, Woodrow "Junior" McFarland, Mike McFarland, Darrell Barlow, Frank McFarland, Robert Wethington, and Andrew Walters.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren; Mary Elizabeth Tyree, Ellen Michelle Wagner, Levi McFarland, Jessica Lazer, Hannah McFarland, Rachel McFarland, Alex James, Callie Dixon, Logan Dixon, Daniel McFarland, Isaac McFarland and Sam McFarland.
